Who We Are

Promoting Equity, Protecting Environment, Transforming Lives.

Environment Development Society (EDS) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization established in 1995 in Birendranagar, Surkhet, Nepal. Registered under the Non-Government Registration Act 2034 and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (SWC), EDS has dedicated nearly three decades to improving the quality of life of vulnerable and marginalized communities through sustainable development initiatives and community empowerment.

Guided by the vision of a healthy, inclusive, self-reliant, and gender-equal society, EDS works across sectors such as environment, education, sanitation, disaster risk reduction, agriculture, livelihood promotion, safe migration, and good governance. Through strong partnerships with government agencies, development organizations, and local communities, EDS promotes social justice, strengthens local capacity, and contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Karnali Province and beyond.

Our Approach

Our Strategy for Change

EDS believes that sustainable development is achieved through strong partnerships, community empowerment, and inclusive participation. We collaborate with local, national, and international organizations, as well as government bodies at all levels, to reduce poverty, strengthen climate resilience, and ensure sustainable project implementation. Through networking, alliance building, and stakeholder engagement, we promote shared ownership and long-term impact.
Our approach focuses on empowering women, marginalized communities, Dalits, Janajatis, and vulnerable households by enhancing leadership, governance, advocacy, and livelihood capacities. We support economic growth, disaster preparedness, environmental conservation, and climate-resilient development through awareness programs, capacity building, and income-generating initiatives that improve the well-being and resilience of communities.
